Pierre was born March 25, 1887 in Galliano, Louisiana, the son of Ernest Antoine Galiano and Henriette Marceline Guidry. His baptismal record, printed and completed in French, is signed by Brother E. Penfier on June 11, 1887 at lEglise Notre-Dame du Rosaire, Paroisse Lafourche. His godparents were Willis Galliano (his uncle) and Marie Cheramie. Pierre was the fifth of six children. His siblings were Antoine Jules, Zenon Taylor, Antoinette Adolphine, Lejeune Geneveve Joseph and Paul Charles. Pierre was only 24 when he married Selima Jeanne Ledet, daughter of Antoine Ledet and Angelina Gisclair on February 25, 1911 by Rev. Alex. Juillé at Holy Rosary Church in Larose; the same church in which he was baptized. The certficate is signed by witnesses Jolisen (Jolisaint) Galiano (Pierres cousin), Wallace Smith and Eusebe Adam (Selimas cousin-in-law). He and Selima had 12 children between 1912 and 1935 -- Rena Marie born March 1, 1912, Salvina Marie born December 27, 1913, Bud Paul born September 23, 1915, Angelina Josephine (named for her grandmother) born January 19, 1918, Smiley Joseph born November 21, 1920, Clarice Marie born January 31, 1922, Henrietta Marie (named for her grandmother) born January 23, 1924, Ernest Joseph (named for his grandfather) born February 23, 1926, Doris Mae born April 4, 1928, Joyce Ann born March 14, 1930, Nancy Rita born March 3, 1932, and Horace Jules born September 22, 1935. The couple worked their farm near the Cheramie Cemetery raising corn, potatoes and field peas. He also raised peach trees. Pierre trapped in the winter and hunted wild game, birds and rabbits. He often fished in Bayou Lafourche. Pierre died April 15, 1939 in New Orleans, Louisiana at Charity Hospital. He was crossing Bayou Lafourche when he began suffering head pains. As the pain grew worse, he was taken to New Orleans where he died from a cerebral hemorrhage. He is buried in Cheramie Cemetary in Galliano, Louisiana, near his wife. |
