I am a descendent of Daniel L. Pierce. (b. ac 1785 d. Nov. 1826)
Daniel L. Pierce was married twice.
Daniel L. Pierce and his first wife, Elizabeth Sons, (m. 1810/1811) had three children, Benjamin Franklin Pierce, Elizabeth Pierce and Washington Pierce (Information from Probate Record EBRP 27 Nov 1820)
Elizabeth, the first wife of Daniel L. Pierce, died sometime in 1819. (Information from Record cited above.)
Daniel L. Pierce married Marie Melicert Cantrell. (Lafourche 1819-1820 Mar v.1 #7) Daniel L. Pierce and Marie Melicert Cantrell had one son, Andrew Jackson Pierce. (b. ac 1820)
In the marriage document (1819-1820) of Daniel L. Pierce and Marie Melicert Cantrell; Daniel L. Pierce is said to be 35 years old and a native of Westmoreland Ct. Pennsylvania. Marie Melicert Cantrell is said to be 17 years old and a native of Ascension Parish Louisiana. (Information from Record cited above.)
Daniel L. Pierce died in November of 1826 (Information from Document filed in Lafourche Parish Court House Vol D. P. 306 23 April 1827 …. document in part reads…. DLP died in November of previous year….) in a drowning accident (Information from family oral history) while crossing the Mississippi River near New Orleans.
From the issue* of his first wife, his son and daughter, Benjamin Franklin and Elizabeth, and from the issue of his second wife, his son, Andrew Jackson, Daniel L. Pierce has a considerable number of descendents in the parishes of Lafourche and Iberville. There are descendents in many other areas of the state and country. Has anyone from La Societe des Cajuns been able to identify the parents of Daniel L. Pierce?
