- since retirement and throughout his life, an active member of Allen Chapel AME Church in Thibodaux; at Allen Chapel, served as church treasurer for more than 40 years, Sunday-school teacher, a member of the steward and trustee boards and a member of the lay organization; also served on the district and conference levels of the church lay organization, including a term as the lay president of the Central Louisiana Conference; in 2001, one of 19 people to receive national and international recognition for his contributions to the church and community at the international meeting of the 27th Biennial Session of the Connectional Lay Organization of the African Methodist Episcopal Church in Jacksonville, Fla.
