• in addition to pursuing his stock investments, he also found time, as an owner of J.R. Gray Barge Co. and G&H Barge Fabrication and Repair LLC, to serve on the board of directors where he provided sage counsel and quality business and investment advice that was instrumental in helping these companies, managed by John Gray, his nephew, to expand in size, profitability and stature
• once he retired, he was able to take time to travel the world and to delve into his lifelong interest in the spiritual realm; always a devoted Christian, he showed no preference to denomination, regularly attending the First Baptist Church in Morgan City, although he was officially a member of the First Presbyterian Church of Thibodaux; in Lafayette he participated in services at the Methodist Church; also devoted himself to the work of the Masons, acting as a Master Mason and member of Doric 205 Masonic Lodge in Morgan City
