Henry Carter ‘Paw Paw Hank’ Willey

• born Aug. 7, 1924, in Whitney, Texas, died at 2 a.m. Friday, Sept. 30, 2005, in Baton Rouge; resident of Cut Off since 1947

• service remembering his life held at Falgout Funeral Home in Galliano today; visitation today; laid to rest alongside his wife in Livingston, Texas

• played basketball at Big Sandy High School in Livingston, Texas, and then attended Sam Houston Teacher’s State College in Huntsville, Texas, to pursue a degree in physical education

• decorated veteran of World War II, he served as a corporal in the Second Armored Division of the U. S. Army; participated in the Battle of the Bulge and the D-Day invasion at Normandy; awarded both a Purple Heart (three clusters) and the Silver Star

• during the war, his sweetheart in Texas, Ruth Reaves, wrote him saying that she would like to marry; married for 36 years until she died of a prolonged illness in 1982

• retired from Gulf Oil Co. in 1985 after serving 38 years as a supervisor of offshore production

• positive, gentle spirit; passionate supporter of area athletic events, from Biddy Basketball to South Lafourche High School sports; also honored the athletes and coaches by remembering their achievements throughout their lives; founding member of the South Lafourche High School Booster Club and served as club president for two years
