Dear Mr. Oster --- A genealogy correspondent referred me to your website, dealing the the genealogy section on the Hickman family. I am interested in the line of William and Nathaniel Hickman. I am a 5-great grandson of #35 on that list, William Hickman. I believe that the listing is in error when it states that William Hickman was married twice, to Lucretia Stricklin and Mildred Ann Smith. I have seen fairly convincing evidence that there were two men named William Hickman (probably cousins), one married Lucretia Sticklin and settled in Georgia. The other married Mildred Ann Smith and settled in Tennessee. My 5-great grandfather, the one who married Mildred Ann Smith, died March 17, 1811, in Nashville, TN. As the website states, the other died in Georgia, about 1816, leaving a will there. My line is through his daughter, Martha "Patsy" Hickman Hill. I tried to contact Mrs. Teague, at the e-mail address listed on your website, but my message was returned marked "no such address". Do you know how to contact her? You have an excellent website, and I am sure that you want to have the correct information in it, to the extent possible. (This combining of the two William Hickmans is a fairly widespread thing, and I'd like to correct the mistake wherever possible.) Sincerely, Pete Hamilton |
