Subject: Bruce Family Records
I very much was surprised to see your site and like it a great deal.  I have been searching
for my paternal grandfather's records for twenty years. His name was Claude Bruce.
He would have been married to Virgie Anders, somewhere around the early 1900's. They
had one son, Raymond Buford Bruce. He married Carrie Christine Young. They lived,
as did Claude Bruce, near Portageville, Mo. Claude died three years after his son Raymond
was born. Virgie remarried several years later to Lafayette Knight. Claude's parents were
a Scotchman and a Cherokee Indian lady. I do know they were married probably near New
Madrid County. I also know that Claude is buried somewhere in or near New Madrid County,
Mo. Any help or records you or anyone may have would be Greatly appreciated.

Genealogical Genius,  it's two words that describe all the work involved in doing your incredible research.  I am Francis Jacques LeBlanc of New Brunswick, Canada a descendant of Daniel LeBlanc in the survey of Port Royal in 1671 age 45 the we are not certain of his ancestors in France but about 250,000 or more are descendants of Daniel LeBlanc married to Françoise Gaudet including the former and still living Governor General of Canada.
The LeBlanc's, maybe relatives also have been visiting Canada for a very long time, example on the ship "le Christophe" that left La Rochelle in 1535 on board in a Jehan Leblanc and in the same year Jacques Cartier comes to visit Canada and on board is his son in law Estienne le Blanc
I just started looking into genealogy a few weeks ago and found your site.  Incredible amount of work and I congratulate you for the time and effort you have put into your research.

Subject: Alexander Marriage--Wash. Co, MO
Hi, I am the great-granddaughter of Joseph E. Alexander, whose marriage you have listed in the Washington County marriages....30 October 1838.  I have a correction to make for that entry.  There is a mistake, probably dating from the time the record was originally transcribed from the original, that needs to be fixed.  Everything I see, based on the transcription, says that Joseph married May or Mary Ann CARNES.  This is NOT correct.  Her name was Mary Ann CURRIER, and she was the daughter of Jacob and Betsy (SMITH) CURRIER who came to MO from Vermont.  I would love to see this error corrected.  Hope you can help. Thanks loads.  Lorna from Virginia

I want to complement you on your extensive Pullen Web site. I found out about it in the Pullen forum on Genealogy.com. It gives quite a few names I was unaware of in a different branch from mine.  However, I wanted to touch bases with you on Thomas Pullen, son of Henry (b. 1659), son of Thomas (b. 1632).  In a couple of my sources, the younger Thomas had a daughter named Sarah married to Benjamin Lansdell, but no Elizabeth, Jesse, or Judith.  My sources are, “Tide-Water to Blue Ridge:  Pullen-Walker Families of Bedford County, Virginia,” by William E. Pullen (Hollywood, FL, 1977), and “Earliest Pullen Settlers in the South and Their Descendants,” by Gladys Pullen Burge (1970).
It may be you have more current information than I do; my sources were published in the 1970’s.  If you would care to shed some light on this, I would appreciate it, and I am also willing to share what information I have on hand for my branch of the family. The info I have is a bit sketchy, and I got it almost entirely from second-hand sources, and I would like to verify it. If you’d like, I can send you a Gedcom file.  You may email me at either majortom2@att.net or tompullen@hotmail.comTom Pullen, Felton, DE

I told you that you had done a good job!  I have returned several times to relook either at my found records or for new ones.  Now I have a question or two.  Have you worked on the Ste Genevieve Co marriage records? One of the women in your file from St Francois two times Mary Jane Grammer to Larkin Howard Jones and to Francois Kitto was married two times before.  She started as Mary Jane Resinger and married Jason Hughes/Hues and xxxx Grammer.  Another person and I have been working on her.  She is not related to me.  She is to my cousin and to another person who is working with me. Since she came out of this county, we bet that she married there. So, that is why I am bothering you by asking if you have these records.  Thanking you soooooo very much for the St Francois Co records.  I Really needed them!!! Alanna

Subject: Pullen Family
I believe I have written you before.  I am sure you don't remember but I am researching my Pullen family in Wilkes Co., Ga. in the late 1700's to early 1900's. I still have not been able to find out where my Pullen's came from before Georgia only have  Elisha Pullen my ggg grandfathers census record in Tennessee that says he was born in Virginia.
I am looking at all the various Virginia Pullens and the families they married into.  I know you have information on William and Thomas Pullen who married Winifred and Elizabeth Everett.  I have seen this same information in other various books and also on the internet. But I have found something that has confused me and was hoping you might have an answer to this puzzle.   I just found a copy of a will for Thomas Everett date  6 July 1726 from Lancaster Co., Va. Will book #12 page 32.   Thomas Everett names his wife Elizabeth, sons  John, Thomas, William, Jesse and Rawleigh   and the daughters he names are  Winnifred Pullen, Mary, Sarah, Judee and Lucretia Everitt.
My puzzle is that he doesn't mention a daughter by the name of Elizabeth.  I was wondering
if you have ever seen a copy of this will or why there is not the mention of a daughter Elizabeth. Right now I am trying to look at the Everett, Hughlett families that married into the Pullen family in Virginia.  I was hoping you might be able to help me with this puzzling question. Do you happen to remember where you found the information that Thomas Pullen wife Elizabeth was wife of Thomas Everett and Elizabeth.  Boy these Pullen's really keep me confused.  Seems there were Pullen/Pulliam families all over Virginia.  Thank you for your help and look forward in hearing from you when you have some free time.  Donna Gray, Seabrook, Texas

Subject: feedback on information you have posted on your web site
Enjoyed looking at your web site. Nice work. :)  I'm about the same age as you - a tad older. I grew up in Crystal City, in Jefferson County, Missouri, part of the long tradition of "Donnells" in that area. Also knew lots of people who were descended from the "French" areas of the state, just to the south. Fascinating area, linguistically and otherwise. You list some of my direct ancestors - among others, Donnells and Staples - in your web pages. In particular, I note that you list some information re William Albert Donnell's descendants on web page http://www.vienici.com/descendants/staples/stap0004.html which in some cases differs from information I obtained some 25 years or so ago in direct contacts with a granddaughter of William Albert Donnell, Mabel McMullin, then in her 80's, who was in possession of what she claimed was the William Albert Donnell family Bible. (Mabel was a daughter of Adaline Donnell, daughter of Wm. Albert Donnell).
Your information might be identical to that listed by a "K. Melvin" in his/her web page "James Donnell Web Page" (the URL is listed below) - I'm not certain. When I discovered the Melvin web site, I also noted a few discrepancies between his/her names and/or dates for descendants of William Albert Donnell. Upon noticing the differing names/dates, I sent an email to K. Melvin, in which I transcribed all the relevant names and dates I had received from Mabel McMulllin. I am sending you the same information below, in case you wish to have a "second opinion" on some of the names and/or dates of William Albert Donnell's descendants. Note: I was extremely careful to double-check all dates received from Mabel McMullin when transcribing them from my notes for my email to K. Melvin, but was slightly less careful when double-checking my spellling of all names: I misspelled the name "Adaline" as "Adlaine" in one place in that email. I have corrected that error below. Nonetheless, I am confident that my transcription of all dates below correctly reflects my notes and, I believe, all names as well Whether the original Bible entries themselves are correct as to dates etc. is another matter, but probably should be considered to be highly credible, considering their source.
Following is a copy of the email sent to K. Melvin, on 6/6/2001. I hope this is of interest.
Hi K. Melvin,
I am a descendant of one of the Donnells mentioned on your "James Donnell Web Page", URL http://www.geocities.com/Heartland/Plains/4235/Donnel2.htm   I grew up in Jefferson County, and am a direct descendant of James Nicholas Donnell - at least, the person you list as such. I haven't been extremely active in genealogy since the early and mid 1970's, when I was fresh out of college. However, I thought it might be interesting to you for me to pass on some information I got at that time, which provides some dates and names of offspring for William Albert Donnell, which differ in some cases from the information you list. I got my information from Mabel McMullin, who was in her 80's when I visited her in her home on August 12, 1973. Mabel was a daughter of Adaline Donnell McMullin. Mabel had in her possession an old family Bible which she said was "originally owned by the parents of Mrs. Adaline McMullin" - in other words, by William A. and Emma E. Donnell.
I copied the following information from that Bible:
Wm. A. Donnell b. 21 Sep 1815 - d. 30 March 1873
Emma Donnell, wife of Wm. A. Donnell - b 10 Feb. 1816 - d. 26 Feb 1863
Wm. A. Donnell m. Emma Edwards 25 July 1833. Their children:
Jane Caroline Donnell - b. 10 June 1834 - d. 15 Aug. 1858 ("funeral preached Sept. 3, 1858 by Rev. J. L. McFarland") - m. an "Ogle"
James Nicholas Donnell - b. 6 July 1836. (This person was the grandfather of my father. My father is still alive, but 89 years old and his memory is failing. I do have some other information about him, somewhere, including the date of his death. Significantly, there is considerable confusion as to whether his middle name was Nicholas or Newton. My dad remembers it as having been "Newton", and I believe there is documentation - census records or whatever; I probably have some references to these, somewhere - indicating he did in fact use "Newton". So the "Nicholas" reference is a mystery.)
Susannah Donnell - b 19 Nov. 1838 - d. 25 Nov. 1838 ("aged 6 days")
Clarissa Angeline Donnell - b. 19 Nov. 1839 - d. Sunday March 8, 1908
Mary Catherine Donnell - b. 23 July 1843
Wm. Robt. Donnell - b. 4 Jan. 1846
Thomas Nutan (sic) Donnell - b. 9 Nov. "1848? 49?"  (this is what is in my notes; apparently the writing was not 100% clear in the Bible. Also, the spelling Nutan is what was written in that Bible.)
Francis Adaline Donnell - b. 21 June 1851
Eliza (?) ELBA Donnell - b. 26 Dec. 1853 - d. 24 Sept. 1856 ("aged 2 yrs. 8 month") (the question mark after "Eliza" indicates I apparently was not able to read the first name with 100% certainty from the Bible)
Emma Arabella Donnell - b. 18 June 1855 (she was referred to as "Aunt Bell" by Mabel McMullin, who also indicated that a Mrs. Zella Drake was her offspring (daughter, I believe) and living at the above-mentioned date in 1973 at: Apt. 1218; 1055 Adams Circle; Boulder, Colorado 80303. I wrote to Mrs. Drake and never received a reply.) Please know that I have DOUBLE-CHECKED all names and dates above, to make sure I am repeating it exactly as I copied it from the Bible in question.  I note that the dates above, from the family Bible, differ in some cases from the dates you list on your web site. I am not in a position, of course, to judge whether your dates are more accurate than the ones I copied, but would like to give you the dates from the Bible, for your further consideration, and to perhaps help to improve or complement the information already available to you.
Mabel McMullin told me some stories from the Civil War, as experienced by her mother Adaline Donnell, which, while not highly detailed, are of course fascinating. I also have a few other notes from my conversation with her. Here are the two items that stand out in my notes. I will repeat my - hasty - notes, made during the conversation - as closely as possible, to avoid distorting what she said to me:
* Donnells used to carry lead from Old Mines to Herky (Herculaneum) - a one week trip - by oxen. The father  of Wm. A. Donnell -- James Donnell -- began taking Wm. A. on trips when quite young; they slept under wagons; cooked "wagoner's mush" and took it with them on the trips.
* Adaline Donnell stories: b. 1851. Memories of Civil War: General Price's Army (Conf.) came through the farm (1863 or 64?) (same as where Mabel McMullin lived, in Richwood, MO area); took over the place.
"Uncle Jimmy" (James N. Donnell, my father's grandfather) was "under Northern control" ("living elsewhere? or when Price wasn't around?" - my questions for myself from the conversation), but was southern in sympathy. He kept horses ready so as to go south if he thought they could get through the Northern lines to join up with (the) South.
Hope this is of interest and use to you.
Thanks for your generous sharing.  I'll be updating the site shortly!

Hello, I have visited your site a few times looking for a Wallace/Roach (Roche) marriage about 1858. Then it dawned on me that you don't have ALL the marriages indexed.  However you do mention that you have an early one completely indexed.  Did you happen to find a William Wallace and Ellen Roach/Roche about 1858?  Thanks for you time  Jim Halley
If a book is listed, it is completely indexed unless it is a work in progress.  Only one book is being worked on at any given moment.  Not all early marriages were recorded, especially the earlier marriage prior to 1900.  You may have to check church records or resort to implied marriages from land records, or probate records.

Big Thank you for this site.  I found by my own research several relatives.  In a couple of cases I have the right information and I have proven that someone else has fiction.  In another case another relative and I have wondered who a certain person was.  Your records showed who she is.  I want you to know that the name of Annis Catherine Jones is correct. She was my grandfather's sister.  I wanted to know her husband's full name.  Again Big Thank you.  Alanna Lorena Jones Scanlon

I'll give you a wee bit of info.  Look at Perkins Jones and his marriage to Sarah.  His real first name was James.  I have a letter from 1936 where that is told.  All those people are now dead, shucks.  He went by the name Perk, my mother said.  You and I are the only ones who know that now unless his children, if he had any, are around!!  A fiction writer who has put fiction on at least two data bases, has his name and marriage all messed up.  I have his dc and now his mc. I also have one or more pictures of him!  I know his bd and where he was born.  The fiction writer has that All Mixed Up!  I was disappointed in one area and it is Not your fault!!!!!  It is the character that married into my family.  She might be a black widow and your records are somewhat proving it. Take my Larkin H [LH] Jones who marries Mrs. Mary Jane Grammar.  Six months after Larkin died, she married Francis Kitto who is dead by 1912.  She died in 1914.  I have a family picture of her around 1912.  You have helped me prove that she, as Grandma Kitto, was Larkin's widow. Sorry, but she looks mean!  In your records you have Wm B Jones marrying Frances Ann Hughes. Some people in the family now dead, thought that Grandma Kitto was originally a Mary Jane Hughes and Frances' mother.  This is the way I thought it might be:  Mary Jane Resinger became Hughes [with a daughter named Frances] then Grammar [with a son named John] then Jones and then Kitto. I have looked through your files and did not find this connection.  That is why I could say, "Good work!" because of all the work you did.   She could have married outside of St Francois or the record is lost or not recorded.  Example is John L Haile married Mary Conway.  Both were from Iron Co and married in St Francois Co.  Mary is mine and this is her second marriage.  This John may have also used the name of Hale.  I found them by accident some years ago yet it was a thrill to see them here again.  This Mary was always a heroine of mine.  She was originally from Shannon Co.
I am from CA and here it seems that MO does not exist!   That is another reason that I am soooo happy to see all your work.  You may not be able to get through doorways for months or years, I am so happy to have used your files.  Another thing:  I am very much like Wm B Jones above.  He was long gone by the time I came along, but that is my opinion.  Thank you again!  Alanna Lorena Jones Scanlon

I was just looking around your site for the first time.  I'm looking for my Boyers who were in Festus City, Joachim Twp in the 1900 Census.  I have no history on them - so it was great to see your site.  I think that my G-grandfather was born in Union Twp, Washington County, MO ... but can't link back that far yet.  The civil records don't cover the time when my G-grandparents would have married (btwn 1875-1877), but you have a St. Joachim Catholic church marriage records link for that period.  However, the GO button doesn't Go for either church! (Text above selection box: "Church Records for Washington County.
